BACB introduces a simplified procedure for loading micro-enterprises with cash in euros
Dear customers,
In connection with the upcoming transition to the euro on January 1, 2026, and the requirement for merchants to give change to their customers in euros from that date, we would like to inform you that 5 days before the introduction of the euro, micro-enterprises can pre-load up to EUR 10,000 in cash under a simplified procedure from BACB, if they have not submitted a request for the application of this procedure through another bank.
The offer is valid for companies with a staff of under 10 people, an annual turnover of up to 2 million euros, and/or assets valued at up to 2 million euros.
To withdraw euros in cash through the simplified procedure, it is necessary:
- to submit a Prenotice for cash withdrawal in euros through the simplified procedure 3 working days before the withdrawal via the online banking platform or at a bank office.
Prenotice for Withdrawal of Euro in Cash under Simplified Procedure for Microenterprise - to submit a Declaration (Appendix 1 to Regulation 46 of the BNB) when withdrawing the requested amount.
Declaration (Appendix 1 to Regulation 46 of the BNB)
When withdrawing the requested amount, the bank blocks the leva equivalent of the provided euros in cash on the microenterprise's account. The amount will be used to pay the withdrawn funds in euros on the date of the introduction of the euro - January 1, 2026.
The banknotes and coins that you withdraw from the bank should be kept in a safe place, separate from other cash, and should not be used in circulation before January 1, 2026. The Bulgarian National Bank will monitor compliance with this requirement.
Sincerely,
BACB team
