BACB volunteers planted trees in the area of Stara Zagora

On November 23, 2024, employees of the Bulgarian-American Credit Bank and some of their children organized a special initiative for the reforestation of the burned forest in the area of "Sedmi Kilometer", Stara Zagora municipality. It was realized with part of the donation of 20 000 BGN that the bank made for the restoration of one of the most affected areas by the fires this summer. With a lot of smiles and jokes, despite the cold weather, the volunteers managed to plant over 1000 young trees. This is yet another initiative by which BACB shows its commitment to environmental protection as part of its Sustainable Development Strategy for 2023-2026.

The fire in the area of "Sedmi Kilometer" occurred in August 2024 and burned about 1,400 acres of forests. The ambition of the State Forestry of Stara Zagora is to reforest 650 acres of them this year, and the restoration of the forests will be done by planting cedar and oak saplings. BACB joined the initiative for the restoration of the burnt forest, and with the donated amount nearly 20 000 cedar saplings were purchased, which will give the start to a new, healthy forest in the area.

Through this and many other similar initiatives, BACB demonstrates sustainable practices and a commitment to environmental protection, carbon footprint reduction and social responsibility. Traditionally, the bank has been concerned about environmental protection, and a top priority in recent years has been reducing paper use and protecting forests. As a result of the digitalisation of its products, the bank has so far saved over 1,200,000 pages of paper and saved over 100 trees, calculated with special calculators embedded in the platforms: https://apply.bacb.bg, https://credit.bacb.bg and https://deposit.bacb.bg. Among the key successes of the Bank in implementing the Sustainable Development Strategy 2023-2026 is the switch to using 100% green electricity in the two buildings of the Bank's headquarters in Sofia, which reduces direct carbon emissions by 113.35 tonnes per year.

All of this has earned BACB numerous nominations and awards over the years, including "Greenest Bank" four years in a row, and this year - three awards from NEXT DiFi AWARDS' 2024 for Digital Banking, ESG/Green Solutions and Accessible Finance. These are just some of the examples that rank BACB among the leaders of green transformation of business and society.
