Your security is important to us: how to recognize fraud attempts

Dear Customers,

We would like to inform you that recently there is a new fraud scheme affecting customers of various banks in Bulgaria.

Usually, the potential victims have published advertisements for sale of goods in a well-known Bulgarian platform for free announcements.

The scammers usually contact the victims via apps (such as Viber), pretend to be buyers of the goods advertised for sale, and offer a "secure way" to pay the amount in advance. Then they direct the victims via a link to a page where they can select their servicing bank. After the bank is selected, a fake page is loaded that imitates the online banking home page of the respective bank. The users are pushed to enter their access data, and then the malicious individuals get access to the victim’s online banking and could use it to make unauthorized payments.

Recently, there is a trend of sending fraudulent SMS and text messages via Viber regarding unpaid traffic fines. These messages are most often sent on behalf of the Ministry of the Interior— the Traffic Police, the Bulgarian Road Traffic Agency, the Vehicle Management Service, and others. Citizens are urged to click on a link to a domain resembling the official Ministry of Interior’s website, which leads to a fraudulent payment platform where they are asked to enter personal and banking information.

Important:

Access to BACB online banking platform is not provided through links sent by email or messages. To access the platform, please use the official BACB website → section Online banking → BACB Online. Ensure that the website is genuine by clicking on the padlock in your browser: (Certificate is valid à  Issued to: Bulgarian-American Credit Bank AD.)

Our Advice:

Do not open suspicious links and do not enter your details there.
If you receive calls or messages that seem suspicious immediately to stop the communication.
Report them to us through the official channels for communication and inform the Ministry of Interior.
