Loading merchants with euro banknotes, euro coins and start sets euro coins
Dear customers,
In connection with the upcoming transition to the euro on January 1, 2026, and the requirement for merchants to give change to their customers in euros from that date, we would like to inform you that you can request advance cash loading of euro banknotes, euro coins, and start sets with euro coins from BACB. You need to fill out a request form, which you can download here. You will receive the requested quantities during the period November –December 2025.
The banknotes, coins, and start set with coins that you withdraw from the bank should be kept in a safe place, separate from other cash, and should not be used in circulation before January 1, 2026. Compliance with this requirement is subject to checks by the Bulgarian National Bank and violations are subject to penalties.
To receive the requested quantity, you must do the following:
- Submit the completed Application by 05.09.2025;
- Sign a contract with BACB by 15.09.2025 for advance loading with euros. We will contact those who have submitted a Request and specify the procedure for concluding the contract;
- Submit a Withdrawal Request via the online banking platform or at a bank office 5 business days before the cash withdrawal;
When withdrawing the requested amount, the bank blocks 110% of the value of the euro banknotes, euro coins, or sets provided in your account. The funds are used as follows:
- 100% of the value is used to pay for the withdrawn funds in euros on the date of introduction of the euro;
- 10% of the value serves as a guarantee in case of breach of obligations related to pre-loading and is unblocked by 04.02.2026.
Each Request is valid only for the office and period specified therein. If you wish to withdraw the pre-ordered amount at different offices and periods, you must submit separate Requests.
Please submit the signed Request to BACB by 05.09.2025, which you can do in one of the following ways:
- via the BACB Online remote banking platform as a message to the bank, signed with a security device;
- to the email address Eurocash@bacb.bg, by sending the Request signed with an electronic signature or signed by hand and scanned;
- at a bank office or by email to the servicing office.
